Kevin Smith's Cop Out is an attempt to pay homage to '80s cop films such as Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop and 48 Hours. However, Smith has confused the word homage with parody. Cop Out feels like an Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg (the Epic Movie guys) film more than anything else. This is a film that comes off as nothing more than a tired rip-off so intensely boring I have a hard time believing Smith can look back at it and be proud, let alone laugh or even chuckle at the stupidity on screen.

I've been a long-time fan of Smith from Clerks to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. My Blu-ray shelf is loaded with his work and I would even recommend you buy the below average Jersey Girl DVD for the fantastic audio commentary. However, after he sold out and made Clerks II, knowing it's pretty much everything the first film was against, and then tried his hand at mixing Judd Apatow with Smith-inspired crude behavior in Zack and Miri Make a Porno, it's almost as if he has sold his soul to make Cop Out. And he even sold it for cheap, taking, at minimum, a 65-percent pay cut along the way to maintain the film's R-rating. Smith has said it was worth it, knowing that I would have hated to endure a PG-13 version.Cop Out is Smith's first directing gig in which he didn't write the script, and while it shows a lack of talent at the screenwriting stage (though this is about as bad as you would expect had Smith written it considering his current trajectory), equally disastrous is the serious lack of editorial and directorial control. Smith, once again serving as his own editor, shows what can only be a major ego or a declining sense of humor with this 110 minute series of deleted scenes, twenty of which I could have told him should have been cut before I even sat in the theater. Admittedly, there are a few laughs, and they are laughs that feel as if Smith had a hand in shaping the jokes, but they are sandwiched in with such trite dialogue it doesn't really matter, and it begins early with an interrogation scene that feels like it will never end.

Aboard this train wreck are Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis playing Detectives Paul Hodges and Jimmy Monroe respectively. And guess what, they have an unorthodox way of solving crimes. I mean, these guys are real wack-a-doos. Such as staking out a pawnshop dressed as a cell phone… You did what?!?! Man you crazy! Too bad captain cranky-pants doesn't like it and decides to bench Paul and Jimmy for a month after they lose the bad guy and shoot up a neighborhood. Enter Kevin Pollak and Adam Brody, the rival detectives with all the jokes. Both are a bit goofy and one specifically likes fancy boots. Zing! That's comedy!It goes on like this, and on and on and on. Seann William Scott, whom I traditionally find very funny, is given nothing to work with and that nothing translates into more of the very same nothing. It's astonishing how redundant every scene is, which may explain why Bruce Willis looks as if he were nothing more than a life-sized cardboard cut out of himself, showing as little excitement to be in this film as I was to be in the theater enduring it.

The worst of the bunch is Guillermo Diaz as the drug-dealing villain Poh Boy. However, I don't place any blame on his shoulders as it was most likely Smith's decision to have him play his character as a caricature of action-thriller baddies. I get what he's doing here, but I'm not sure how it is considered funny. Utilizing slow-motion and corny one-liners, Smith is obviously looking to parody as much as he is hoping to pay homage to the successful cop flicks of the past, but it just comes off as dull and uninspired in every way.

Looking over Smith's career decisions it's upsetting to see the way things have gone. Clerks, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob, Mallrats and Chasing Amy are films I will go to my grave with. They aren't award-winning cinema (though Chasing Amy's at least nomination-worthy), but at least they are films that feel as if they meant something to the filmmaker making them. I never got the sense Clerks II was something Smith wanted to do, Zack and Miri was simply a misfire that wasn't altogether awful, but was still missing something and Cop Out appears to be the bottom of the barrel. It's almost as if this film is telling Smith now is the time to look back and reflect on everything that has transpired since Clerks and start over.

I read in an interview where Smith was watching the Olympics and saw "Sponsored by Cop Out" and, surprised to see his R-rated film promoted in primetime, said, "WHAT? I made that movie!" To this point Warner Bros. has done their best to make sure no one knows this is a Kevin Smith film, so for the sake of his career I suggest he keep information such as that to himself.

Cheung Bo-Man (Simon Yam) used to be an elite in the police force. He was an idol among the younger police cadets for being an ace shooter, highly observant and a calm mind. However, after the murder of his wife by triads, he lost the motivation to live and sink into depression. His relationship with his daughter also deteriorated.

During this time, he encountered the greatest challenge of his life. He was sent to investigate a series of kidnappings and murders of triad leaders by the newly posted Chief Superintendent of Police, Ku Kwok Kiong (Fala Chen). The perpetrators of the crimes were higher organized, professional, cruel and violent.

After investigation, he found that the leader of the perpetrators was an ex-police officer (Michael Miu) and all his underlings were ex-SDU members. Therefore, they were familiar with police procedures and techniques which enabled them to predict the police’s moves. My friend Tim and I watched this last night at the Dynasty. It was a lot of fun, and featured some notable performances, but more on that later.

Black Ransom/撕票風雲 tells the story of a veteran cop (Simon Yam) trying to figure out who is kidnapping local gang bosses and demanding ransom. More importantly, he wants to know why these people are being ransomed, since none of them are very wealthy (at least by local standards).

In a funny Hong Kong Movie Moment, it is a treat to watch Simon Yam, who portrayed kidnapper ‘Big Spender’ Cheung in Operation Billionaires/驚天大賊王, play a cop trying to catch kidnappers.

The film is completely genre-fulfilling, and at times has plot holes nearly big enough to fit the narrative’s monstrous logical lapses into: Why is it so easy to get past a police cordon in the movies? “No, that’s my father in there!” (with the bad guy shooting at each other and blowing stuff up) “Oh, go ahead, miss…

Or how about when the bad guy sends a photo of Simon’s daughter to him, and shortly thereafter Simon leaves her alone in their flat (he’s a widower) to go and catch the guy who sent the photo? “Ahhh, she’ll be fine,
There are a few of those, but even so, the film manages to entertain. It’s not designed to break new generic ground, and it doesn’t need to.

What sets this film apart for me, if in an admittedly limited fashion, is the performances by some of the characters. Simon Yam has become a very dependable presence, and his character seems very believable. Granted, it’s not a big stretch, but he brings a lot of believability to an aging detective raising a daughter alone while facing his growing irrelevance/age handicap at work.

This aspect of the film is handled with more sensitivity and depth than usual, such that there are some smaller roles by actors of yesteryear (their names escape me and I apologize) and its a nice surprise to see them. In addition, they act well in their roles.

Sneham Reviews:Sneham is dubbed veriosn of tamil movie Anjathe and the story opens in a typical police housing colony, where Narain and Ajmal Ameer both sons of police head constables (MS Bhaskar and Livingston) are childhood friends.

Both, the well versed Ajmal Ameer and irresponsible Narain appear the police Sub-Inspectors (SI) examination on a same day, but using his influence Narain is selected while Ajmal Ameer fails.On the next day itself Ajmal Ameer drifts away from his best friend and turns out to be his most bitter foe.

Movie News: Tamil super hit Anjade has been dubbed in Telugu and released as Sneham soon. Indus Inspiration is the banner which is bringing the film before the Telugu audience. Since the beginning, it has been touted as a film that tells an interesting tale about friendship. The film's producers recently organised a press meet at Prasads Labs, which was attended by BA Raju, Jaya Pasupaleti, A Prabhu and others, apart from its producer Kantharao and writer Bharathi Babu.

BA Raju, the famous film journalist and public relations officer, averred that the film has been written by Bharathi Babu, who has so far written for over 150 dubbed films. Everyone is hoping that the film work the same magic in Telugu as it did in Tamil.

In fact, many producers had vied to own the film's dubbing rights, but it ultimately went to Kantharao. He said that the original producers had sold away the rights to Indus Inspiration because they believed that Kantharao was passionate about the film.

The Story : Jugaari is a practical representation of a stranger's return to the ever changing Bengaluru. He is exposed to the various corrupt practices by bureaucrats and other powerful people. On roping in Nisha Kothari for an item number, the debutant director says, “it is not an item number actually. The song comes at a crucial part and it would be one of the highlights of the movie. We thought Nisha would be apt for it. Rs one crore was spent for this particular number.”

The story of the film revolves around a happily married mechanic hijacking a hospital to save his son who is suffering from heart disease. The film is loosely based on the Hollywood movie John Q starring Denzel Washington.

Ten directors, one Malayali captain, shooting complete in 18 hours… yes we’re talking about Shivarajkumar starrer Sugreeva. Though it’s a unique achievement, shooting in 18 hours calls for a lot of compromises in acting, shot selection, location selection…etc. But luckily, a considerable amount of time (about 4-5 months) and discussion was spent on the script itself. Since it’s alleged to be a thriller, we hope that the film will boast of the same pace as that of shooting. Along with Shivrajkumar, Sugriva stars Yagna Shetty and Anitha. It’s Anitha’s comeback movie after Psycho and she’s playing a negative role here. The film is produced by Anaji Nagraj and is expected to hit the theatres in January 2010.

The Kannada film Hatrick hero Shivaraj Kumar-Yajna Shetty starrer Sugreeva is all set to release on February 26. The film have been shot in 18 hours which includes songs and fights. The movie Sugreeva started shooting at 6 a.m. on October 11 and was completed at 11.55 p.m on the same day.

The movie has been certified U/A by Censor Board. Anaji Nagaraj is producing the movie under banner of Anaji films. It is said that 12 cameramen Vishnu, Shekar Chandru, Sathya Hegde, R Giri, Suresh Babu, MR Seenu, Krishna, Niranjan Babu, Veenus Murthy and Suresh has worked along with ten directors which includes Om Prakash Rao, PN Sathya, Nagshekar, Pramod Chakravarthy, Ananthu, Viji, Raghav Loki, AP Arjun, Pandu, Tushal Ranganath.

Prashanth is the main director of the film and Guru Kiran has composed the music. Ninasam Ashwath, Guru Raj Hoskote, Vijaya Sarathi, Manju Bashini, Patre Pavitha, Raju Thalikote, Prakash Heggodu, Dilip Raj are in the cast.

Movie Review:This was a movie about a girl and guy returning home for the first time in a long time. Returning home to a small town in Montana for her help on the high school reunion, the filmmaker hopes that her estranged adopted brother will come home so they can reconciliation some bad vibes between them. Marc, her adopted brother keeps doing things uncovering stunning revelations including his so called blood relationship with Orson Wells and Rita Hayworth. Intense sibling rivalries and unforeseeable twists of plot and gender that forces them to face challenges no one could really imagine.

The release date although limited is February 26th. Prodigal sons is one of those movies that just keeps you interested because you simply don’t know what is going to happen next. It won awards in a variety of film festivals and was noted as being one of the best raw films out so far. Kimberly does all she can to make amends with her adopted brother but everything she tries just doesn’t seem to be working. The battalions of warring states Liang and Wei collided in a bloodbath that lasted from dawn till dusk. Only two men were left standing - A FOOT SOLDIER from Liang (Jackie Chan) and the rival GENERAL from Wei (Wang Leehom). The soldier could survive because he's an expert in playing dead, with a device strapped on his body that could protrude an arrowhead for added realism.

The Soldier captured the wounded General, hoping to use the enemy as his exit - By handing the General to the Liang warlord, the Soldier could be honorably discharged and returned home to his peaceful life. The young General, though taken captive, was always condescending towards the Soldier. The two men were often at loggerheads during the long and winding journey.

Along the way, they encountered a mesmerizing but scheming songstress, who drugged the duo and stole the General's jade medallion, the only evidence of General's identity. In the course of pursuit, they became entangled with a cohort of refugees who robbed all their food and water. To make their life even more complicated, they were stalked by a ferocious bear. The odd couple was forced to collaborate in order to survive one crisis after another.

At the end of the incredible journey, the hatred between Soldier and General was gradually replaced by camaraderie. A moral dilemma dawned on the Soldier - Which was more important in life, the General's friendship or the ticket to home?

One is an old soldier who only wants to survive. The other is a young general who is aspiring to conquer. After a bloody battle, the two are the only ones alive. When the soldier finds the injured general, he decides to kidnap him and brings him on a long journey to collect a reward, thinking by doing so he will no longer need to fight a war.The general, feeling insulted, attempts suicide but is saved by the soldier every time.



Somewhere along the way, the soldier and the general find themselves becoming allies in a fight against the real villains. The story of "Little Big Soldier" is mapped out by Jackie Chan who had conceived it for 20 years. Chan told Sohu.com in an interview that he has talked about the story with many people. But director Ding Sheng was the only one who has translated the colloquial story into a screenplay. Ding Sheng also directs the comedic road film, starring Jackie Chan as the soldier and Lee-Hom Wang as the general.

Arthur et la vengeance de Maltazard Hollywood Movie Review :

While the original film wasn't exactly a masterpiece either, this one digs lower. And I can't say it's an improvement. The music is corny. The titular villain only appears pretty late in the film. The characters are sideshows, most of them. I really can't say I liked very much about this film at all.



Then again, perhaps it IS a plague when considering they decided to make a book into a 90-minute film, but I don't know. This whole film, to me, felt like an unnecessary sideshow, and the ending doesn't help it at all. Maybe a rental when it's available, but otherwise don't bother. This was a bigger disappointment than Terminator: Salvation even if watched with lower expectations.

I took my daughters to the cinema and was very disappointed with this disgusting movie. I t was a waste of time and money. I don't advise anyone to waste his time and money to go and watch such movie. There is no story for the movie the mix of the animation and real people was not good. the characters they used in the animation are very ugly. Very cheap movie. All events are not connected, my kids fear the movie and did not enjoy it. For future work please consider that who are watching the movie are humans, the production is very cheap I bit the cost of production was too low. This movie is not suitable nor for kids neither for adults.

Shutter Island Hollywood Movie Review :

We've come to expect Martin Scorsese to swing for the fences every single time he's at bat, so when a movie comes along like Shutter Island, a pulpy, by-the-numbers thriller, it's easy to feel a slight twinge of disappointment. Here, we're dealing with a lesser work by a modern master, which is to say that Shutter Island is still a crackerjack mystery, executed with great artistic care, but it's also Scorsese working about as close as he ever has to popcorn-munching cineplex fare. It's a hard-boiled and unpretentious outing, but the individual parts of Shutter Island are greater than the whole -- particularly the cinematography by Robert Richardson and outstanding work from a dream team ensemble cast.



Leading that dream team is Leonardo DiCaprio as U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels, called in to a state-run mental institution on a storm-battered, rocky island on the East Coast, along with his new partner Chuck (Mark Ruffalo). The delusional murderess Rachel Solando has gone missing from her cell, leaving behind no evident clues, and with those in charge of the facility (Ben Kingsley, who needs to work with Scorsese more often, and Max Von Sydow) only forthcoming with information to the officers as it seems to suit them.
