Do Dilon Ke Khel Mein Preview This is the story of two lovable childhood friend, Joggi (Rajesh Khanna) and Goggi (Anu Kapoor). Joggi has returned from London to his village in his motherland India. Wherein he wishes and wants his son Rohit (Rohit Nayar) to get married in Punjab with a Punjabi girl…and Goggi…who left Punjab 20 years back and came to Mumbai and fell in love with a south Indian girl, Laxmi (Kishori Shahane) and got married.
Today Goggi is the father of a girl Isha (Nausheen Ali Sardar). Goggi wishes and wants his daughter to get married in Punjab but his wife Laxmi wants her son- in- law to be south Indian only! STORY The plot of the film has two outstanding Goa cops Ajay Shridhar(played by Sunny Deol) and Vinay Patnaik(Irrfan Khan), who are not only best friend but also there is also an undercurrent of rivalry between them. While Ajay is media savvy and loved by the media, Vinay works by rule book and keeps away from limelight.While Ajay believes in the philosophy of giving a chance to criminals to get themselves reformed, Vinay is more concerned with his official duties. Though, Ajay Shridhar is good natured but when it comes to hard core criminals, he becomes very calculative and does not give them any chance.
Another habit of Ajay Shridhar, which separates him from other cops with Goa Police, was his own concept of right and wrong. Come what may, Ajay would always stand for those things that he thought to be right by his own yardstick. Ajay is married to Anshita(Eesha Koppikar) and has a child. He adores his wife and child and can go to any extent to keep them happy. However, by a strange twist of destiny a day comes when he asks his wife Anshita to shoot him. and adulterous wife is not averse to doing the same.
Anshita is an independent modern woman, who is interior designer by profession. However, her life takes a turn for the worst when an unexpected incident takes place in her life. Radhika is Vinay Patnaik’s sister but has her own yardsticks for judging anything right or wrong. She is lawyer by profession but when crunch comes, Radhika goes with the views of Ajay rather than her own brother.What happens after that and whether it was right or wrong, is revealed in the later part of the flick.
PERFORMANCE Sunny Deol, the macho man of bollywood with ‘Dhai kila ka haath’ who plays the part of top cop Ajay Shridhar in the film, has for the first time underplayed his character and is not loud on the screen. Instead you will find a powerful performance that is underplayed by the one actor who gave us unforgettable flicks like ‘Ghayal’ and ‘Damini’.
However, the soul of the film is Irrfan Khan, who plays the character Vinay Patnaik in the film. His acting is not only brilliant but he also successfully carries the flick on his strong shoulder in the post-intermission period.
Irrfan Khan’s interactions with Sunny Deol are superb. His cop act that goes strictly by the rule book makes him so cool and calculated in the flick. In fact, the movie takes off only in the second half when Irrfan Khan’s friendship with Sunny comes under strain.
Konkona Sen Sharma, the bong beauty who enacts the character of Irrfan Khan’s brother Radhika, comes out with a winning performance. The character of a head strong lawyer, which she enacts in the flick, fully suits her real personality and the role seems to be tailor made for her.Eesha Koppikar, who plays he part ofSunny Deol ’s wife, Anshita, in the flick, comes out with a convincing performance. Her adulterous character seems so genuine and real in today’s world. Others provide able support to the main cast of the flick. The direction of Neeraj Pathak is convincing for this riveting thriller. He shows his grip on the filmmaking of the thriller in the second half when movie achieves newer heights and the audiences wait on the edge of the seat.
Neeraj’s handling of the climax scene, involving main actors in the emotional sequence, takes the film several notches up in the thriller genre and will also be liked by the audiences. However, the music by Monty Sharma in the film is just ok and fails to add anything substantial.
STARDUST VERDICT Irrfan Khan’s towering performance has made the flick really a riveting thriller in the post interval period and the audiences would love the flick. However, IPL cricket matches and the ongoing examinations of the younger lot could restrict its prospect at the box office. A good fare.
