Aagathan Movie Review :

Agathan movie tells the story of retired Major General Hareendra Natha Varma (Sathyaraj) and Gautham Menon (Dileep) who is a software engineer. His father was Mukundan Menon, a bank employee working in Srinagar. His mother was Sujatha and sister Amritha. He lost his members of the family in a terrorist attack. During that period Major Hareendranatha Varma was on duty in Srinagar.

After the incident Gautham decided to leave Srinagar. On his way to Bangalore he met a girl named Shreya (Charmi). After the journey incidentally he met Shreya several times at Bangalore. She was an MBA student. She had an inclination to Gautham. But he was least interested in loving her.

One day Shreya took him to her house. Her father Major Hareendranatha Varma, mother (Zarina Wahab) and grand mother (Valsala Menon) liked Gautham. They wished Gautham to be Shreya’s husband. One day Gautham revealed a secret to Major and story turns.

Dileep and Kamal team up again for \’Aagathan\’ after \’Pachakkuthira\’ . Tamil super star Sathya Raj is introduced in Malayalam with an important character. Kedi Telugu Movie Review:

Like a regular tale, the story starts with Ramesh as Rummy (Nagarjuna) who is friend of Janaki since childhood and friendship is changed in one side love by Rummy. Janaki tells him that unless he becomes a big person in the society and a rich man, she will not be ready to marry him. It is taken seriously, and Rummy gets into gambling. Very soon he becomes a very healthy person. But then he nails those people who became rich by wrong route and wins them in the gambling. ACP Sekhar (Sayaji) comes to know and does best to catch Rummy but does not get success. The story takes turn when Rummy gets into a deal with Chandra (ankur) and at that time Sara (Paula)’s life is saved by him whose sister Nadia (Linda) falls in love with him. There is also Sandhya (Mamatha) who is Rummy’s aide in all his activities.

The audio did not make good sales in the market due to it was quite bad. The movie is released on “Annapurna Studios Banner”. The comedy king of Telugu film industry Dr. Brahmanandam also played a role in Kedi, a crucial role is played by Kelly Dorge in Kedi.

As director Kiran makes his debut with this movie. This movie under the banner of ‘Kamakshi Kala Movies’ has been produced by Siva Prasad. ‘Muddante Cheda’ the hit song of ANR has been remixed in this film. Chinni Charan and Krishna Chaitanya pen the lyrics. The voice for the musical tracks has been landed by Sunidhi Chauhan, Archith, Sonu Kakkar, Rahul Nambiar, Geetha Madhuri, Neha Kakkad, Salim Shahzada, Sandeep Chowta, Tippu singers.

Kedi has obtained its U/A certificate. The movie looks as if it is stimulated by ‘Catch me if you can’ conspire with scenery changed to cars stealing and gambling. In production from first, the film went through a series of name changes; it was named 23 then Rummy! From Rummy to Mayagadu to Mosagadu’, and lastly the producers agreed on the title Kedi.

Cheluveye Ninna Nodalu Kannada Film Review :
Shivaraj Kumar will be featured in the Huttidhare Kannada Naadinalli song get up in his forthcoming film Cheluveye Ninne Nodalu directed by Raghu Ram. Huttidhare Kannada Naadinalli Huttabeku is a popular song rendered by Annavru, the Kannada Movie icon Dr. Raj Kumar in the film Aakasmika directed by Nagabharana .

The song was shot in Hubli’s main road where Rani Kiththur Chennamma Statue has been installed. The remix song which has been used in Cheluveye Ninne Nodalu has been shot in Dubai where several Kannada artists and technicians like Prem, Hari Priya, Music director Hari Krishna, Director and famous lyricist Nagendra Prasad along with the film’s heroine Bollywood actress Sonal Chouhan had participated. The original song was written and composed by Music Maestro Hamsalkeha.

Another special feature of the film is that four top directors in the Kannada film industry have written the lyrics. The list includes Yogaraj Bhat, S.Narayan, Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar and Nagendra Prasad.

Shivaraj Kumar said that the song was shot in Dubai where many Kannada flags were used by the film crew. ‘Lot of Kannadigas in Dubai had also participated in the song shooting. The entire unit was charged during the shooting of this song. Many Kannadigas in Dubai were emotional and remembered the entire Aakasmika song which was shot on Appaji’ said Shivaraj Kumar.

Director Raghu Ram said that the film is almost complete except for a shooting in the world famous China wall. “We are yet to get permission from Chinese authorities despite making several requests. We have waited for quite a long time to get the permission’ said Raghu. He said that the experiences of shooting the film in Pedro in Jordan, Dubai and Taj Mahal was highly exciting. Country’s well known cameraman Kabir Lal who had shot top films like Yuvaraj is wielding the camera for this film.
‘Cheluveye Ninne Nodalu’, starring Shivaraj Kumar, will release in February. The film is produced by Excuse Me Suresh and directed by Raghu Ram.

At a recent press meet organized for the film, music director Hari Krishna, director Raghu Ram, producer N. M. Suresh and Shivaraj Kumar were present.

According to Shivaraj Kumar, a major portion of the film was shot abroad, unlike other Kannada films which shoot only a song or two outside the country. The police and the public still baffled that the "Ripper" remains at large and may have inspired a copycat killer. A veteran police officer, Peter Hunter, is called in from Manchester to take over the investigation, but his new theories about the case only incite growing opposition to his involvement.

The Red Riding Trilogy continues in this sequel that picks up six years after the events of the first film. The Yorkshire Ripper is continuing to prey on the young women of a dead-end town, and the local police have proven completely ineffective in solving the crimes.

When Manchester Detective Peter Hunter (Paddy Considine) arrives in Yorkshire to investigate, he discovers a number of inconsistencies in the official report, and begins to suspect foul play. Unfortunately for both Detective Hunter and the growing list of victims, the local police seem unusually tight lipped about the case. Perhaps their refusal to aid Detective Hunter in his investigation has something to do with his previous visit to Yorkshire in 1974, when rubbed the local authorities the wring way while investigating a shooting. As Detective Hunter delves deeper into the case, it becomes increasingly obvious that incompetence isn't to likely blame for the lack of progress made by Yorkshire police.

Red Riding: 1980 Hollywood Movie Reviews :

Detective Peter Hunter (Paddy Constantine) is assigned to head a Covert investigation into the West Yorkshire Police's handling on the Yorkshire Ripper case, authorized by the Home Secretary. He handpicks two of the best associates he knows, including one he was once romantically linked with, and the investigation starts. A prostitute, seemingly another Ripper victim, puts a dramatic turn on things when Hunter learns of her history with the head of the police force years ago and this leads to a dramatic twist involving corruption, betrayal and murder.
The Yorkshire Police's handling of the Ripper enquiry was notoriously criticized at the time it was going on, and provides an interesting, if questionable, backdrop for this superior second part of the Red Riding trilogy.



The only part of the series to deviate from the original story into something completely different, it's a dour and humourless affair but at least there is a clear and intelligent story to follow here, that doesn't get too lost in deep, dark monologues and moody atmosphere.

In the lead role, Constantine fits the material with a straight laced and serious demeaneur that is matched by the rest of the supporting cast. Hopefully, the relatives of the Ripper's victims didn't find it too disrespectful but this is quite possibly the most well made and gripping part of the story.

Red Riding: 1983 Hollywood Movie Reviews :
Again, I must begin this review (and I apologise) by directing you to my reviews for the first two instalments in this trilogy. Just so that you know how truly amazed/mesmerised/impressed I was by this production.

It's now 1983 and we have a number of story strands coming together and, pay attention and you shouldn't get too confused, a number of flashbacks tying everything together and revealing more than we ever realised from the first outing (the middle, 1980, section isn't really as vital although it's still a connecting vein in the overall story arch).



The police corruption continues, suspects are pulled in on a whim and shown the "force" in police force, while a few good souls (including a lawyer who feels in way over his head but realises that something must be done, brilliantly played by Mark Addy) try to actually ensure that justice is done and that some innocence is saved.

What can I say that I haven't already said about the "1974" and "1980" instalments of this peerless trilogy? This has consistently impressed me beyond belief from the very start to the last minute.

Mark Addy reminds us that he really can be a great actor and deserves some more, better roles like this one. David Morrisey, ever-present throughout the trilogy, takes centre-stage here and certainly gives one of his best ever performances (certainly from the little I have seen of him). Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, has fumbled so much as one line throughout this entire trilogy and all involved should be mightily proud of such an achievement.

The Shinjuku Incident Mandarin Film Synopsis :

In China, the poor worker Tietou repairs tractors and misses his sweetheart Xiu Xiu, back in Japan, she having never sent any news to her family or him. While illegally emigrating to Japan, Tietou loses his Chinese documents and so cannot return to his country. He is welcomed by his countrymen who lodge and work in Shinjuku where they also help him to find illegal work. While running from a police raid through the sewage system where Chinese are illegally working, Tietou saves Inspector Kitano from drowning in the dirty water. Later, after an incident with his cousin, Joe, and a Taiwan gang, Tietou saves the powerful Yakuza boss Toshinari Eguchi. He is the husband of Xiu Xiu, who is now called Yuko and are parents of a little daughter. The mobster offers a dirty job to Tietou; in retribution, he promises to deliver the quarter dominated by the Taiwan gang to him. Tietou becomes the boss of the Chinese illegal immigrants. But his peaceful methods make him unpopular and Tietou starts to lose control over his men which escalates into a giant gang war.

The Shinjuku Incident Hong Kong Movie Reviews :

The stronger message in the story here, is how easily the Chinese get taken advantage of.



As the adage goes, united we stand and divided we fall. It's very obvious that given the myriad of Chinese, from the Mainlanders with the different dialect groups to the Taiwanese to the Hong Kongers etc, the immigrants here are shown to exhibit solidarity when they are together, sharing whatever little spoils they have as they build their little community. But quick success would mean the opportunity for corruption to creep in, splitting up the unity established, and spawn plenty of infighting to make the community weak again and ripe for the picking by their enemies. Perhaps in not wanting to acknowledge this issue as highlighted in the film, would have resulted in making Violence an excuse for the Chinese censors to drag their feet in awarding a rating, since they put the people on the whole in some negative light.

One scene too was reminisce of Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury, where Lee's character Chen Zhen rips apart a signboard that says "Sick Man of Asia". Here, lead actor Jackie Chan tears away a sign that says "No Entry to Chinese", but this is no action movie for the action star we're so used to see. In fact, if Shinjuku Incident was a typical Jackie Chan film, then we would see him kick everyone's rear with nary a scratch to himself. Here he drops his superhuman persona, wanting instead to take on a more dramatic, ordinary role as Steelhead, a simple man from Northeastern China who made his way to Tokyo in order to look for his lost love Xiu Xiu (Xu Jinglei).
Jackie Chan had limited success in taking on a more dramatic role, and a morally ambiguous character who's prime motivation may have seemed like a mechiavellian one masked by a very simple exterior, and looked clearly uncomfortable in not being able to unleash his usual repertoire of stunts when surrounded by thugs. Deniel Wu however upstaged Chan with ease with his Jie role, despite having to suffer bad hair days throughout the film with a ridiculous perm, and a Joker-esquire makeup in the latter half. And following the Jackie Chan trend, female characters are little to show for, and here both Xu Jinglei and Fan Bingbing's characters do nothing more than looking good and offer translator services.

Shinjuku Incident is a good effort, but nowhere near the ranks of Derek Yee's better films. This is not to say that this film is no good, but it could have been much better. A pity too that it had to end with a whimper.

One of the brand new additions to the Sundance Film Festival this year that a lot of people will be keeping an eye on is their NEXT category, which features 8 films that were made for either very little money or no money at all. I dig the idea behind the category, and the fact that Sundance is trying to once again return to celebrating the true spirit of independent film, and I look forward to seeing what these scrappy little show dogs bring to the table.



One such film is called Bass Ackwards, and today Cinematical has its exclusive poster premiere. The film follows a dude whose life sorta falls apart to the point where he rents a van and decides to drive across country to go move back in with his parents. It's on this road trip, though, that he meets some people who help him find a reason to love life again. One of the cool things about Bass Ackwards is that they struck a very unique deal to make the film available via multiple platforms (digital, VOD, DVD) the day after the festival ends, on February 1st. So make sure you keep an eye out for it.
